MOUNT DAMAVAND
Iran
Iran
Mount Damavand (5671m) is situated in Iran, an amazing country to visit and very tourist friendly. This is a snow and ice covered dormant volcano and very similar to Kilimanjaro in ascent. Non–technical and a special place in Persian mythology and folklore, this is a very achievable mountain for the average fit person and an interesting alternative for the adventurous spirit. Although not volcanically active, there are fumaroles near the summit crater that deposit sulphur. The mountain is located near the Southern coast of the Caspian Sea.
Mount Damavand is a trek to the summit and requires no technical ability. Hot and dry conditions with patches of snow prevail in the desert. Warm clothing, trekking boots and trekking poles are mainly required.
The climbing season is from July to late August. The Iranian formalities are intricate and take time – you are therefore urged to book as early as possible.
