CARSTENSZ PYRAMID
Indonesia
Indonesia
Climb Carstensz Pyramid with Adventure Dynamics . One of the 7 summits, this peak is at 4884m above sea level. Carstensz Pyramid is Australasia’s highest mountain. She is one of the Seven continent peaks. Carstensz Pyramid, and Puncak Jaya (Victory Peak) as the Indonesians call it, is located in Irian Jaya in the western central highlands. The mountain was named after Jan Carstensz, a Dutch explorer who was the first European to sight the peak. In 1962, Heinrich Harrer became the first foreigner to climb the peak. This remote region offers great climbing, rain forest, glaciers and the preserved culture of the Dani people.
Unlike the other seven summits, Carstensz is rock climbing of moderate difficulty.
While all short technical sections will have fixed lines, climbers should possess basic rock climbing skills. The route on Carstensz Pyramid follows a series of gullies up the North face for 500m on solid rock before breaking out on the ridge. Riddled with notches, the summit ridge undulates for half a kilometer to the summit where we leave a fixed rope for our return. On our descent we will abseil a short distance and “down climb” most of the way. The rock is extremely good, rarely loose, and always provides good friction even in wet weather. We offer walk-in and fly on programmes with helicopter.
Includes: Airport transfers in Indonesia, all hotel accommodation according to itinerary (sharing), climbing permits required for the expedition, an Adventure Dynamics experienced high altitude mountaineer on the entire trip, discounts on the purchase of personal equipment can be arranged, a suggested training program, mountain pack, communal gear on mountain including tents, stoves, pots, food, fuel, radios, fixed rope, base camp cook, porters and Liaison Officer. Helicopters if required.
Excludes: All flights, Visas, insurance, personal equipment, tips, hotel meals, extra meals, soft drinks, bottled water or alcoholic beverages, items of personal nature, health requirements, hospitalisation and evacuation if required. Any additional expenses including expenses of delay & cancellation/changing of flights, excess baggage and items of a personal nature.
This is the “walk in” program, although we also offer the helicopter program – contact us about this.
