The summit of Mt Vinson is unlike any other in the world. Thousands of square kilometers of ice caps and glaciers fade into a distinctly curved horizon. Set amidst this tremendous icecap are hundreds of unknown and unexplored mountains awaiting the adventurous. Mt Vinson at 4897m is 1200km from the South Pole and is the highest of these. Vinson is part of the Elsworth Mountain range, which rises from the Ronne Ice Shelf.

The climate on Vinson is generally controlled by the polar pressure system, creating predominantly stable but cold conditions. During summer months there is 24 hours of sunlight and the annual snowfall on Vinson is minimal. Since Mt Vinson’s discovery in 1957, it has seen a relatively few ascents, attesting to its reputation as the world’s most inaccessible mountain. Getting there and back is an awe inspiring adventure!

The ascent of Mt Vinson will require an open mind, a sense of humour, and flexibility. Good health is a strong requirement and a doctor’s check-up is recommended prior to leaving. Preparation and training is essential.

Includes: Accommodation at hotels with bed and breakfast (1 night before and 1 night after in Punta Arenas), all tents, communal equipment and food, as well as mountain rescue while doing the climb, all land based Antarctic costs. You are accompanied by an Adventure Dynamics experienced high altitude mountaineer on the entire trip for safety, advice, instruction and guidance. Excludes: Evacuation Insurance and costs if required, personal equipment, delay expenses, change of flight fees, restaurant meals, expenses outside itinerary, excess baggage fees, hotel accommodation outside itinerary, items of personal nature , Sat phone calls, health requirements, hospitalisation and evacuation from Punta Arenas if required.

* You will be required to sign a waiver form.
* You have a weight allowance of 30kg and excess baggage into the Antarctic is $65 per kg.
* This is weather and flight dependant and expeditions can go as long as 2 – 3 weeks with delays.

Your Adventure Day by Day

Day 1-2: Arrival in Punta Areas

Day 3: Board an EL 76 cargo plane for our 4-hour flight to Patriot Hills in Antarctica. Night spent at Union Glacier base
Day 4: Board a ski plane for the one hour flight to Mt Vinson base camp at (2135m).

Day 5: Start our ascent to Camp 1 (2776m).

Day 6: Ascend to the foot of the head wall and cache at Camp 2 (3752m).

Day 7: We leave sleds and an emergency food cache at Camp 1 and ascend 700m up the headwall to a saddle between Mt Vinson and Mt Shinn and establish Camp 2 (3752m).

Day 8: Rest day on the saddle to acclimatise.

Day 9: Summit day starts with a 5 km traverse to the summit, descending back to the saddle.

Day 10: Return to base camp and await aeroplane pick up. Fly to Union Glacier.

Day 11/12: Pack up and preparation of aircraft.

Day 13: Return to Punta Arenas.

Day 14: Day spent in Punta Arenas to sort return air tickets.

Day 15: Depart for home
