Situated in the remote Madagascar, Mt Maromokotro is one of the 7 highest island peaks. With an altitude of 2876m, this jungle trek starts in Nosy Be on the northern part of the island, riddled with birds flora and fauna in the 48 000 Ha reserve. The temperatures can range between 26 and minus 15 degrees on the trek in. The elevation gain during the trek is 2676m. Great for camp fires and taking photographs, a trek with us is always an amazing experience.
The trek is rated medium difficulty as it passes through three different types of landscapes. The final ascent is a trek to the summit. 6 – 8 hours of trekking a day.
Visas:
Visas for Madagascar are required by all foreigners.
You can get easily a short stay tourism visa valid for 30 days upon arrival in Madagascar. €31 approx. (Cash USD or Euro)
Passports:
Madagascar requires a valid passport for six months after the date of entrance.
Health and vaccination:
Vaccinations against tuberculosis and hepatitis B are sometimes advised. Hospitals and healthcare in Madagascar are spread throughout the country. However, services are sometimes not the same as in your country. Private healthcare is also available. Pharmacies are limited so visitors should bring their personal medication.
There is no emergency ambulance service on the island.
Malaria is a risk in Madagascar, make sure you take the required steps to protect yourself by taking anti-malaria tablets.

You are required to have proof of hospital and evacuation insurance.
Food and drink:
The cuisine in Madagascar is quite simple. Traditionally the Malagasy eat rice, accompanying a portion of meat, vegetables and sauce. Tourist establishments serve meals with rice or fries and other choices of meals. Zebu steaks (beef) are usually delicious and served with creamy green peppercorn sauce. Seafood is naturally abundant. Pizza is everywhere. Chinese dishes are also available.
Malagasy cuisine includes: Romazava (a type of beef stew), Ravitoto (pork served with shredded cassava leaves), Lasary colorful chutney – usually made from lemon, mango or papaya – or sometimes tomato, peanuts or vegetables.
There is fresh food and fruit and vegetarians can easily be accommodated
Drinks:
Visitors should not drink water from taps or streams . Water quality country-wide is not safe and needs to be sterilised or boiled before drinking. So it is wise to acquire safe mineral water for drinking per day.
There are some local drinks:
Ranovola (burnt rice water, made by boiling water in a pan in which rice has just been cooked – an acquired taste that divides opinions amongst travellers).
Three Horses Beer or THB (available in bottles or cans).
Malagasy wine ( typically an average table wine ; it is produced in red, white, and rose).
Litchel (an aperitif made from lychees).
Rum (homemade flavoured rums that are available in great variety – produced with various fruits or spices.

Day 1: Arrive in NOSY BE.
Arrival in Nosy Be and transfer to your hotel.
City tour and relaxation.

Day 2: NOSY BE –MAEVADOANY.
Transfer from Nosy Be to Ankify and on to Maevadoany.
Early in the morning there is a briefing about the trek.
Transfer by speedboat to Ankify.
Reception in Ankify and drive with 4×4 to reach Maevadoany.
Picnic lunch at Antsirasira.
Overnight at Maevadoany Village under tent on full board basis.
Transfers: speedboat for 90 km.
By 4×4 for 8 hours , 74km.
Day 3 : MAEVADOANY- AMBALAMANASY HELY.
After breakfast, preparation for the trek.

Altitude: 1600m.
Day 4 : AMBALAMANASY HELY INSIDE THE RESERVE– AMPANIHY.
Briefing for the day at breakfast and departure.

Overnight in Ampanihy Village.
Tenting on full board basis (Breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Altitude: 2000m.
Day 5: – AMPANIHY- TOP CAMP.
After breakfast, Trek up to the summit.

Overnight near the summit.

Altitude : 2500m.
Day 6: TOP CAMP – MAROMOKOTRO SUMMIT.
It’s the summit day! After breakfast, continue trek up to the summit.
After 4 hours , we will reach the summit.
We descend back to the top camp.

Day 7: TOP CAMP – to AMPANIHY.
After breakfast, we trek back to Ampanihy.

Day 8: AMPANIHY MAEVADOANY.
After Breakfast we continue the long trek to reach the porter’s Maevadoany Village in one day.

Day 9: MAEVADOANY –AMBANJA.
We drive for 8 hours to Ambanja.
Picnic lunch.
Overnight at your Hotel Baobab in Annkify on half board basis.
Day 10: AMBANJA—NOSY BE.
After Breakfast we will visit the cocoa plantation.
Lunch at Palma Nova.
Transfer by speedboat to Nosy be.
Overnight at your Hotel on Half board basis.
Day 11 : NOSY BE
Transfer to the airport.
